hello deacon rd.

I’ve always wanted to work for myself. I remember thinking “I can’t wait to be my own boss” back when I was a pre-teen; admiring the freelance careers of my parents and wondering what on earth I would do to get myself into that same position.

I didn’t really have a plan, I was happier to go with the flow and be reactive to opportunities that came my way. Fast forward a decade or so, I found myself as a solo mum of two boys with a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Communications and a few rungs on the ladder with some semblance of a career in Operations and Logistics. Useful, varied, unapologetic… are a few words that come to mind.

After that I spent time working in Advertising and Communications and, with a passion for music and The Arts in general, I eventually revisited the notion that I might work for myself again some day, while also diving into the pursuit of a career in music.

So, Deacon Rd. was born. It may seem an obvious choice using one’s surname as a brand, but surname aside, Deacon has a strength about it that I quite like. I like to think it’s obvious without being in your face or cliché, and it lent itself rather well to my chosen URL. All important things in this digital age.

As for Rd.? Given the journey that I have been on in my professional life, and in my personal life too, it felt like an apt way to give purpose to a brand that I will no doubt have as my own - without contention - for as long as I so choose.

This is my path, my journey. Welcome to Deacon Rd.
