UHOH

You know that feeling when you know you’ve forgotten something, but you don’t know what it is? Then you remember, and - phew - it’s OK because it wasn’t a major after all. Then two weeks later you realise that’s not the thing you’d forgotten, and the actual forgotten thing is now a slight catastrophe causing havoc with part of your life you’ve been ignoring completely?

Yeah. The last few months have been a bit like that. And a few things have definitely turned to “UHOH”. Particularly the mould around the window frames, the pile of “I’ll get to that” in the garage, and the parents’ questions about what we’re doing for Christmas.

I still don’t know, Mum, as long as there are mimosas!

But there’s always a perfect moment to turn over a new leaf, and that moment is now.

/turns leaf/

Ahhh. A brand new page. A brand new season. A brand new direction! Much of my year to date has been taken up by a big piece of work for one particular client which has seen me commuting into the city and dipping in and out of a few pieces of (my own) client work.

So right now I am in the enviable, and slightly unnerving position of having much more time on my hands, and a vision for bigger, brighter, bolder.

UHOH. (According to the wonderful web, UHOH is actually “uh-oh” which I will concede is the technically correct version, but today it’s one word in capitals because I say so.)

It’s an UHOH moment because it’s simultaneously a creative’s greatest wish and greatest fear to be afforded such a moment in time. What ever to do?!

Deacon Rd. will be shifting, slightly. The direction it will take remains to be seen, but I can tell you that I feel grateful to be connected with a network of collaborative creatives and doers who are all walking to the beat of their own drum. Feel the beat!

It means that the business can work with clients 1:1 or as a team, adapting and changing as needs dictate. It means clients don’t pay for things they don’t need, like overheads. And it means that I can continue being my own boss and loving every minute of it.

Right now on the go I have a PR campaign, social media and business strategy for a local foodie hotspot, social media for a niche music festival, eCommerce and communications strategy for a salon in the big smoke, and a rebrand for a much-loved local retail store. I am loving the variety, and I am especially loving that one of my clients has asked me to curate a Spotify playlist as part of this work (all right, all right, I might have suggested it)!

So while the UHOH is real while I fine tune the way I am doing business, the energy and enjoyment for what is already on my desk is very real. And on that note, I must go and figure out what’s ‘on my desk’ today.
